ALS signed “James,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, Watergate Hotel letterhead, January 28, 1981. Letter to director George Cukor, in part: "The play had some good qualities e.g. it was an audience pleaser. But there were a number of disappointments in the presentation, topped by ugly relations between Leslie Stevens (author) & Roger Stephens the Kennedy Center nasty. For all that it was a time of adventure, what with extravagant political goings on & the presence here of my son Morgan who emerges surprisingly as Deputy Chief of Protocol. He is a Beverly Hillbilly of twenty five." In fine condition, with writing showing through from opposing sides. Mason's son, Morgan, worked his way up through the Reagan administration to become Deputy Chief of Protocol, Acting Chief of Protocol, and ultimately Special Assistant to the President of the United States.
