Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “James Madison” as president and “Jas. Monroe” as secretary of state, two pages, 11.25 x 14.5, April 15, 1813. A patent issued to Theodore Norton and George Biddis “that they have invented a new and useful improvement being a Carding, Spinning, & roping machine.” The second page contains a detailed description of the patent signed by both Norton and Biddis. Moderate storage folds and creases, a couple of vertical creases lightly affecting both signatures, scattered toning and creasing, several areas of staining including one under Monroe’s signature and lightly affecting the last few letters, otherwise very good condition. The white wafer seal is worn but mostly intact, and the original green ribbon holding the two pages together is present.
