Partly-printed DS, signed “James Madison” as president and “Jas. Monroe” as secretary of state, one page, 10.5 x 15.5, January 17, 1812. Scalloped-top ship’s pass issued for “the Brig Logan, Joseph Hammett, master and commander…mounted with no guns navigated with seven men to pass with her Company Passengers Goods and Merchandise without any hindrance seizure or molestation the said Brig …” Signed at the conclusion by both Madison and Monroe. Cloth matted and framed to an overall size of 16.25 x 20. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of each signature, scattered toning and soiling, and Monroe’s signature and handwritten portions of document light but legible. The white seal is crisp and intact. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
