Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “James Madison" as president and "Jas. Monroe" as secretary of state, one page, 11 x 15, November 20, 1812. Scalloped-top ship's pass issued to the "Brig Fox of Philadelphia, Samuel Singleton master of commander…To Pass with her Company Passengers Goods and Merchandize without any hinderance seisure or molestation." Signed at the conclusion by President Madison and Secretary of State Monroe. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. Handsomely mounted, cloth-matted, and framed with portraits and engraved nameplates to an overall size of 27.5 x 26.5. In very good to fine condition, with creasing and wrinkling, heaviest to the lower left corner.
