<B>James Lovell, </B></I><B><I>An Oration Delivered April 2d, 1771. At the Request of the Inhabitants of the Town of Boston; to Commemorate the Bloody Tragedy of the Fifth of March, 1770</B></I></B></I> (Boston: Edes and Gill, 1771), first edition, 19 pages, bound in marbled boards, green-leather spine with gold lettering, and brown-leather title plate with gold lettering and decorations, 8vo (9" x 7"). James Lovell (1737-1789) was a delegate for Massachusetts to the Continental Congress from 1777 to 1782. He signed the Articles of Confederation on July 9, 1788. When he delivered this oration about the Boston Massacre, he was an educator at the Boston Latin School, which produced such graduates as John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The title page includes the stamp of the "American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Mass."
