A marvelous color portrait Old Paris porcelain cup & saucer with Rococo Revival gold leaf trim of the eleventh president of the United States of America, James K Polk. This is a political Satire portrait of the president. The portrait has distinctive features of Polk such as the pull over gray hair at the top and distinctive nose. I believe it was made in America or was made in France and decorated in America. The porcelain body of the cup and saucer is very heavy. No photo can possibly convey the presence of this cup. It is simply among the most beautiful early political pieces in existence! To our belief, this is the only known example. Choice condition with some wear on the gold leaf border around the inside of the top lip. Measurements:Saucer 6" 1/2. Cup height 4" inches by 5" wide . A Paris porcelain cup with Henry Clay Sold for: $13,145.00 just recently.
