(1845-Dated) James K. Polk Indian Peace Medal. Struck in Bronze at the United States Mint. 76 mm. First & Largest Size. By John G. Chapman. Julian IP-24. NGC graded Mint State-62 Brown.

Julian IP-24. 76 mm. This large size Indian Peace Medal was struck in bronze at the United States Mint in Philadelphia, sometime after 1846. Obverse: Small high-relief bust in concave field. Reverse: 1846 Clasped Hands Die. It shows no actual wear and has a pleasing natural brown color, with some trivial scattered darker tone specks and underlying glossy luster. A similar example of this medal in Choice Uncirculated sold for $1,265 in an April 2001 sale, while another example in Uncirculated quality sold for $1,495 in Stack’s John J. Ford, Jr. Collection Sale, May 2007. This superior medal is handsomely housed in its special, 7.25” x 5.75” custom NGC Certification display type holder.
