<B>James K. Polk Autograph Letter Signed as President.</B></I> One page, 7.25" x 5.5", Washington, April 5, 1845, to P. R. Fendall. Polk writes, in part: "<I>I have to request that you will review the enclosed [not present] application for the pardon of John B. Frissle and furnish me with a statement of the facts in the case...</B></I>" Philip Ricard Fendall was district attorney of Washington from 1841-1845 and again from 1849-1853. During Polk's presidency, the United States expanded through the establishment of the Oregon Territory and through the land gained by the Mexican-American War. He also oversaw the opening of the U.S. Naval Academy and the Washington Monument. The letter is in fine condition with just a bit of original light smearing at Polk's signature and the paraph beneath his name. Double matted with a vintage engraving and framed to an overall size of 18.75" x 11.75".
