A Maundy piece but these early milled issues circulated heavily for centuries, with the result that today it is nearly impossible to locate an intact, original matched Maundy Set. Occasionally a fully Uncirculated single piece shows up, but rarely the biggest coin, the 4d. Here is a truly rare and splendid example! Choice Uncirculated, light silvery gold toning on top of fully original, pearl-white mint luster. Faint and normal tin-flecks (metal impurities, sometimes called "haymarks"). These pieces are so rare (yet amazingly inexpensive) that the annual Spink price guide lists them only up to EF grade (with a $100 estimate, or about $200 for that condition).
