US Navy officer who was the first American to negotiate with Japan during its ‘closed country’ period and later commanded the sloop Macedonian. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Glynn in uniform by Bundy and Williams of New Haven, signed on the reverse in black ink, “Captain James Glynn, Oct 1865.” In fine condition, with a pencil notation and revenue stamp affixed to reverse.
