First edition of John Hay’s book “Castillian Days” from the personal collection of President James Garfield, with envelope laid in, franked, “J. A. Garfield.” Also inscribed by Horace Greeley on the first blank flyleaf: “James A. Garfield / from / Horace Greeley / Cincinnati Ohio / April 29 / 1871.” Affixed to front pastedown is a bookplate from the library of James A. Garfield. In good condition with mottled burgundy boards, sunned spine, foxing and some edge wear. Encased in a custom brown cloth case measuring 5.75” x 8”.
