James Dean Autographed Birthday Card
A very rare personalized birthday card signed by James Dean, along with the signatures of many of his celebrated Porsche Crew and the Officers of the legendary SCCA (Southern California Car Association). The card was for Zaz, a young girl whose father was famous journalist and photographer Gus V. Vignolle, publisher of Dean’s favorite racing magazine “MotoRacing”. Zaz's mother took a store bought card (the kind that has a pocket in the inside to put money in) to Dean who was in his Porsche. He took out a piece of paper and wrote a personal note to Zaz wishing her a happy birthday and then signed the paper, then placed the note into the "money pocket" in the card. Her mother then continued to get autographs and best wishes from officials of the race and some of Dean's crew members. This was in 1955 when Zaz's father and mother were at a race track in Palm Springs, California where Dean was racing his Porsche Speedster 23F, and her father was taking special photographs of Dean for an article in his magazine. He won first place in this race! This was only a short time before Dean was tragically killed, driving his Porsche Spyder 550 to a race in Salinas, California. Very few Dean autographs exist, and it is extremely rare to get an autograph that is personalized to anyone. The fact that this comes exclusively from Zaz Clark's collection, whom it was signed to, and signed by Dean while he was in his Porsche, and also includes his racing friends and famous Porsche Society officers, not long before his death, makes this one of the all time great James Dean memorabilia treasures. Card is approx. 6" x 7" closed.
