Oil on canvas, framed. Featuring street scene with a woman and and two children selling oranges on the street. Signed by James Carlin (1906-2005, Irish-American) on the bottom left corner. "600MD""400.00", "32 x 26", "Carlin Nutley", "1974", and "SIDEWALK MARKET MEX" inscribed on verso. 46 x 61 cm (18 x 24 inches). Framed size: 67 x 81 cm (32 x 26 inches). Born June 15, 1906 in Belfast, Ireland, James Carlin became a noted painter in mod-realist style of genre, figure, landscape and still life. Mediums included oil, pastel, watercolor as well as stained glass and graphics. Watercolor was a specialty. Carlin's work has been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Academy of Design, the International Show at the Brooklyn Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy. It has been shown throughout America as well as Europe and is part of many private and museum collections including the Montclair Art Museum and the Bissell Bedard Galleries in Utica, N.Y.
