James Cagney/J. Edgar Hoover Autographed Letter & Photo (1936)
James Cagney/J. Edgar Hoover Autographed Letter & Photo (1936) When James Cagney took the role of Federal Agent Brick Davis in the 1935 smash hit film 'G' Men (it grossed an astronomical one million dollars) about the early days of the FBI, he went to the FBI Headquarters in Washington DC and spent time with several agents, learning their talk, their walk and their attitude. He also spent a great deal of time with the director, J. Edgar Hoover and they became fast friends. In fact after meeting Cagney (who he admitted to have been a great fan already, and in fact had suggested him for the role as he did Jimmy Stewart twenty years later for "The FBI Story"), Hoover joked that Cagney could be his twin brother. In future conversations, Hoover even said that he modeled much of his own "smooth-talking tough-guy" style after Cagney. Hoover personally approved the script of the film as well, and even assigned FBI agents in Hollywood to visit the set daily and monitor the production to make sure it was accurate in every detail. This is an amazing display of Hoover and Cagney memorabilia. It contains an authentic letter dated May 12th, 1936 when Cagney visited the Bureau again after the release of the movie. On J. Edgar Hoover FBI Official Letterhead, the letter from Hoover himself acknowledges the Bureau's receipt of Cagney's fingerprints which he had taken, and where placed on file at the Civil Identification Section. This amazing letter, signed by J. Edgar Hoover is accompanied by a sighed photo of Cagney, as well as one of the original color glossy official photo of Hoover. It all has been professionally matted and framed. It comes with a Letter of Authenticity from JSA Authentication and Heritage Auction Galleries which is attached to the back of the frame. Framed 25"x15").
