Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 15 x 11, May 30, 1859. President Buchanan appoints George Lee Brent “to be Secretary of the Legation of the United States of America to the Argentine Confederation.” Nicely signed at the conclusion by Buchanan and countersigned by Secretary of State Lewis Cass. Double matted with an engraved portrait of Buchanan, to an overall size of 27 x 16. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered light toning and foxing, and tape remnants and label to mat. The white seal is toned, but intact. Oversized.
