Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 13.5 x 16.5, February 25, 1861. President Buchanan appoints Robert F. Bradford “a Lieutenant in the Navy…in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Buchanan and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Isaac Toucey. Nicely matted and framed to an overall size of 21.5 x 24. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, scattered toning and soiling, and a small area of paper loss to printed text, otherwise very good condition. The green seal is worn, but intact. Oversized.
