ALS, one page, 8 x 9.5, December 12, 1836. Letter of recommendation reads, in part: “We take pleasure in recommending to you the appointment of Dr. William Wallace as a clerk in the Land Office. We believe him to be well qualified for the situation for which he applies…and is himself a graduate of the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia.” Signed at the conclusion by Buchanan and also signed by senator Samuel McKean. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a bit of scattered light toning.
