Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 7.25 x 9, June 27, 1859. President Buchanan directs the Secretary of State to "affix the Seal of the United States to the Envelope of a letter addressed to His Excellency the President of the Argentine Confederation (recalling Mr. Benja. C. Yancey)." In very good to fine condition, with light toning along the folds, and a light stain to the bottom edge. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Benjamin Cudworth Yancey, Jr., served as US minister to Argentina from 1858–1859; recalled prior to the Civil War, he would serve in the Confederate Army as a major in Cobb's Legion.
