Manuscript DS, one page both sides, 8 x 12.5, August 18, 1785. Letter to Samuel Holten, in part: "By Captain Landais I had the honor of your Letter of the third instant: should there be occasion for a Warrant on the Treasurer for the one hundred dollars you have desired him to pay Captain Landais on your account, it shall be expedited when application shall be made for it…It is very unfortunate that Congress cannot proceed on business, for want of a sufficient representation of the States: especially as part of it is of very great importance. It is hoped Congress will be able to project some effectual remedy against this growing Evil." In very good to fine condition, with old repairs to fold separations, and some small chips and tears to edges. At this time, the United States was organized under the Articles of Confederation authored by the Continental Congress.
