Career US Army officer who served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War, and was killed at the Battle of Atlanta. After the war, Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia, was named in his honor. Ink signature, “Jas. B. McPherson, 2d Lt. U.S. Engrs,” on a light blue 2.5 x 1.25 slip affixed to a 5 x 3 off-white album page. In fine condition, with a bit of mild rippling and scattered light toning. Scarce in any form.
