Jakob de Backer (ca. 1540/45 -1600 Antwerp) The Last Judgement, oil on canvas, 223 x 266 cm, w/ frame, (Wo)€ 30.000 - 35.000 US $ 29.700 - 34.650 Jakob de Backer was among the earliest Flemish 'Italianisers', an exceptional stylist, and a proponent of the "maniera italiana" equal to his contemporaries Denijs Calvaert (Dionisio Fiammingo) and Bartholomäus Spranger. Between 1565 - 1570 he was in Italy, a fact which explains stylistic similarities with Giorgio Vasari, Jacopo Zucchi, and Taddeao Zuccaro. The figures in de Backer's composition at the Kunsthistorischen Museum, Vienna "Madonna mit Johannesknaben und Engeln" appear closely related to this painting.
