An early ritual object of simple but beautiful form

This Chinese ritual blade dates to the early Western Zhou Dynasty. The jade is exquisite and beautifully polished. It is of mottled dark green color with speckles of orange and brown on one side. The point is sharp and of isosceles triangle shape. The upper part of the blade below the tang is drilled with a hole, used to secure the blade on its support or handle. This early piece is striking for the simplicity and elegance of its form.



The blade is in good condition with minor wear consistent with age. It measures 13 cm in length.
