The following lot is an exquisite box and cover of intense color and with imperial inscription. The cover bears the 13 character inscription, signed ‘Qianlong yuti’ (imperially inscribed by Qianlong). The poem by Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) refers to the mountain Xiao Gu on the banks of the Yangtze River in Anhui Province. The text translates to: The mountain Xiao Gu towers into the blue sky, when the water reaches the river Xi Jiang, it becomes very clear (???????,???????). There are several temple sites on the Xiao Gu, which were founded in the Tang Dynasty. Legend holds that the Emperor Qianlong has indeed visited this place during a pilgrimage.



Condition: The box is in good condition with light signs of age and wear. It measures 1.6 x 5.1 x 2.7 cm (height x length x width).
