French statesman of Swiss birth (1777-1781) and finance minister of Louis XVI, a post he held in the lead-up to the French Revolution in 1789. LS in French, signed “Necker,” one page, 7.5 x 9, July 5, 1790. Letter written to Mr. Goddard in Paris. Necker sends his thanks after receiving one of his books, then asking information about Bergerot’s file. Necker also adds seven words in his hand at the end of the second paragraph. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered light toning and soiling, and a pencil notation to top.
