STYLISH pair of wall mounted shelves by Jacques Adnet. Leather straps, brass and walnut. Irregular shelf edge is notched to accommodate the straps. 11" d. x 36"l. <p> Jacques ADNET (1900-1984)
A celebrated visionary of the 1940s and 50s, Adnet's handcrafted chairs, desks, and tables bridge the gap between classic 19th-century French furniture and more graphic mid-20th-century pieces. Adnet along with his brother Jean, trained with designers Henri Rapin and Tony Selmersheim. Later they joined the Galeries Lafayette department store, which was directed by Maurice Dufrene. In 1928, Jacques Adnet became the director of the design company-La Compagnie des Arts Francais. In 1937, he won the grand prize for architecture for his design of de Saint-Gobain pavilion at the Paris World's Fair. He later went on to do a series of leather wrapped chairs, tables, lamps, etc., in collaboration with the luxury leather goods manufacturer Hermes.
