Vintage matte-finish 7.5 x 10 photo of the First Lady standing on the first floor balcony of the South Portico of the White House with the Washington Monument in the background, signed and inscribed in black ballpoint “With best wishes to Senora Justa Sierra, Jacqueline Kennedy.” Christina Sierra lived in Washington from 1947-1957 while her husband, Justo, was First Secretary and then Counselor at the Mexican Embassy. Justo Sierra left Washington to help Adolfo Lopez Mateos in his successful presidential campaign, and became Special Assistant to the President. On May 16, 1962, 38 wives of delegates to the Mexico-United States Inter-Parliamentary Union, in addition to Mexico’s First Lady and Señora Sierra, cruised down the Potomac River aboard the Presidential yacht, “Honey Fitz,” named after President Kennedy’s maternal grandfather. This photograph may have been presented to Señora Justo Sierra during this Washington visit. In very good condition, with trimmed vertical edge, and scattered creasing to background and bottom portion of image.
