TLS, one page, 6.25 x 9.25, black-bordered letterhead, October 18, 1965. Letter to White House Chef Rene Verdon at the White House. In full: “I was deeply touched to learn of the generous contribution you made to the President’s Library, and I want you to know how very grateful I am for your thoughtfulness and generosity. The Library meant so much to the President—and now it is important to me that it be the finest ever built so that everyone will always remember all that he was and all that he did for his country. Your devotion to the President—and the happiness you brought to our lives will never be forgotten. That you should now want to help achieve this goal—which is so close to my heart—means more to me than I can say.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and a black-bordered mourning card. Verdon was the chef for the White House during the administrations of Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, who was hired by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961.
