Unusual official original color glossy 10 x 8 photo of a performance troupe at the White House, annotated on the reverse in pencil by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, "Can I also have picture of sweat shirted dancers for Shah in color." Also stamped on the reverse: "21912, May 22, 1962, By R. L. Knudsen PHC, USN, Office of the Naval Aide to the President." Also includes an official color glossy 10 x 8 photo of the Australian racing yacht 'Gretel,' which competed in the America's Cup in 1962, also bearing Knudsen's credit stamp on the reverse. In overall fine condition.

On May 22, 1962, the Kennedys held a state dinner at the White House for Côte d'Ivoire President and First Lady Félix and Marie-Thérèse Houphouët-Boigny, after which they were treated to a performance of Aaron Copland's 1938 musical Billy the Kid—the cast seen in this image. In Jackie's handwritten note on the reverse, she makes reference to the previous month's state visit of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Empress Farah of Iran, held on April 12, 1962, during which "sweat shirted dancers" entertained the guests with a rendition of Jerome Robbins' Ballets USA.
