Baseball signed in fountain pen on a side panel, “Jackie Robinson,” and on another side panel, “Rogers Hornsby.” Ball is signed by a total of 18 players, mostly from the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, including three more Hall of Famers. Other signers include A. B. Chandler, George Sisler, Dizzy Dean, Dixie Walker, Stan Hack, Bill Nicholson, Cookie Lavagetto, Pete Reiser, Carl Furillo, Hank Wyse, John Jorgensen, Phil Cavaretta, Ed Stankey, and ‘Tot’ Pressnell on the sweet spot. In good to very good condition, with deep, but uniform overall toning, scattered light surface loss, some lightly affecting signatures, including Hornsby’s and Robinson’s, several signatures a few shades light, but still legible. Ball most likely dates somewhere between 1947 and 1951. Accompanied by a photocopied letter of authenticity from James Spence. An interesting combination of signatures, as Chandler gave his full support for Robinson to be the first African-American in Major League baseball, and Walker, who demanded a trade at the beginning of Robinson’s inaugural season.
