Large Western pipe tomahawk from Sioux, Jack Yellow Hawk with gambler cutouts in the blade. The blade shows gambler card player’s suit cut out in the blade including the Club, Spade, Heart and Diamond.

History: The piece was noted as being collected at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from tomahawk maker, Jack Yellow Hawk a Sioux member, with his wife Mary Yellow Hawk making the beaded hide drop accompanying it. The piece was collected by Jim Aplan of Piedmont, South Dakota from Pine Ridge Reservation and later sold to Ben Thompson, noted Native American collector. Shown at the Central States Archaeological Society at a special exhibit by Ben Thompson. Also from the collections of Terry Haas and Tedy Levy.

Nice large, western head tomahawk from noted Sioux maker paired with beautiful Indian tanned hide glass trade seed beaded drop from another noted Sioux having greasy yellow, greasy blue, chalk white, dark blue, greasy green, orange, Cheyenne pink being sinew sewn.

Measures overall 30”L overall with the head being 11”L and the drop is 22”L.
