Signed and dated on the back 1962. Appears to have been given to a Samantha for her birthday July 1st 1962. 20 1/4" by 24 3/4" framed. Jack Tworkov (1900 - 1982) was active/lived in New York, Massachusetts. Jack Tworkov is known for Cubist and geometric expressionist painting. A literate man uncertain whether to become a poet or painter, Jack Tworkov became an Abstract Expressionist who is known for that style modified with gridlike restraint of forms and low-key color. He was also an art educator. From 1963 to 1969, he was Chair of the Art Department at Yale University, and he also held teaching positions at Queens College, 1948 to 1951; Black Mountain College, summer of 1952; Pratt Institute, 1955 to 1958; 1972, and American Academy in Rome. Excepting for temporary periods of time, he lived primarily in New York City and Provincetown, Massachusetts.
