TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, Jack Swigert for Congress letterhead, February 19, 1982. In part: “On February 25th I will formally announce my candidacy for Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. Because you are a valuable member of the Colorado Republican organization, I wanted to advise you of my decision before the formal announcement is made…As a native, I know Colorado’s problems and Colorado’s people. I have been in our mines, seen our rivers and visited our farms, ranches and businesses. Colorado is different from the Eastern states. For too long, you and I have seen Colorado’s course determined by Eastern liberals. For too long they have taken Colorado’s precious water and resources for granted…The America I saw from space has changed. Innovation and technology, America’s competitive genius, is disappearing. Few people in Congress understand technology and its capability to bring our nation a clean environment, energy independence and greater military security. Congress has failed to stimulate what America has always done best…I ask your support of my candidacy for Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. Together we can help President Reagan bring about the changes we all want.” In fine condition, with uniform toning from previous display and a small crease to lower right corner. Accompanied by two identical copies of Swigert’s resume, as well as the original mailing envelope.
