Jack Monroe Gifted Sterling Silver Wooden Cane
Featured in this lot is this Jack Monroe gifted sterling silver wooden cane circa 1904. The cane is wonderfully and professionally crafted wooden and sterling silver construction that shows a traditional design to the cane with a naturally included grip and a sterling silver collar that reads as follows: Jack Munroe - To - Rob Roy Benton - 1904 - Sterling - From Butte Mont. Jack Munroe was a copper miner in Butte, Mont. hailing from Nova Scotia originally and encountered fame for an exhibition fight against Jim Jeffries; he later served in the Canadian Light Infantry during WWI where he lost his arm due to infection from a snipers bullet. The cane seems to be a gift for Ron Roy Benton who was a Sports Writer in 1904. The condition of this of this walking cane is good with the tip missing but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this cane is 35 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 7/8".
