Bank check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by London, payable to Joan London for $6.00, stamp-dated April 27, 1911. Endorsed on the reverse by both London’s wife “Bessie M. London,” and his daughter “Joan London.” In very good condition, with paper loss to left edge, three vertical folds, one through a single letter of signature, and cancellation holes over most of London’s signature. London had divorced Bessie in 1904, but still maintained visiting rights. In what proved to be an unwise move, Bessie M. London signed away rights to all royalties for herself or her daughters, in exchange for monthly support and the Oakland house they lived in.
