Fury #4, page 2 (Marvel, 1963). Arguably the most important issue of this series ("The War Mag for People Who Hate War Mags"), this was both a beginning and an ending for the Howlers. Pam Hawley, Nick Fury's short-lived love interest was introduced on this very page, and Junior Juniper, the young Ivy League member of Fury's troop, was killed in this issue, the first time a major character met death in the pages of a Marvel comic. A beautiful piece, full of all the power and excitement one expects from the "King", this four-panel page, measuring approximately 13.5" x 21.5" overall, is in good condition, with just two flaws of note. In the second panel, there is a scrape resulting in about 2" worth of paper loss at Fury's upraised fist. Additionally, there is a 2.25" tear in the fourth panel, from the base of Fury's chin to the edge of the page. Neither of these are major defects, and are hardly noticed upon first looking at the page. Early Marvel pages like this one are few and far between (this issue appeared the same month as Amazing Spider-Man #10, Fantastic Four #24, and Avengers #4), making this a real treasure. Estimate: $750-up

<!--

 Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions

No Prior Data Recorded

<font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
