Jack Kerouac Signed Book.
Jack Kerouac Signed Book: A Bibliography of Works By Jack Kerouac compiled by Ann Charters. (New York: The Phoenix Book Shop, Inc., 1967), 99 pages, first edition, soft green paper wraps, 5.5" x 8.5". Signed and inscribed on the free front endpaper as: "For Tony from Brother Jack. 9-25-67 Lowell." This book is a bibliography of Kerouac's work; a thoroughly researched text, with each entry cross-listed and a general index at the end. This particular copy was signed just two years before his death; and there are 5 pages bearing corrections that perhaps were made by Jack himself. After his discharge from the Navy in 1943, Kerouac held a number of jobs while traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He published his first book, The Town and the City, in 1950. During his brief stay at Columbia University, he met Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. Together, they challenged the literary status quo, writing about their personal lives dominated by drinking and carousing. His semi-autobiographical 1957 book of "spontaneous prose," On the Road, made Kerouac spokesman for the "Beat Generation," a term he coined for the disillusioned young intellectuals who thought that the American Dream had gone sour. The loss of privacy due to his success troubled him deeply and he lived his last few years with his mother and third wife in St. Petersburg, Florida. The book is in very good condition; several small stains on the cover; light separation on the lower portion of the spine; corners rounded.

Important noti
