This is a championship buckle and beaded belt once owned by Jack G. Boyd, a rodeo star from the early 1900's. The "70 Ranch" was established by William and Mary Boyd in British Columbia in the late 1800's. Their son, Jack, took over the ranch in the early 1920's at which time it was renamed the "Flying U Ranch". He organized an annual rodeo that rivalled the Calgary Stampede. The guest ranch is still in operation today as a working cattle ranch. The buckle is marked "Jack G. Boyd / Champion Rough Rider of British Columbia / Range Days Contests, Vancouver, B.C. 1923". The leather belt shows wonderfully beaded geometric designs with glass seed trade beads such as Chalk White, Cheyenne Pink, Sky Blue, Navy Blues, White Lined Red and Medium Green. The belt and buckle are in good overall condition. The belt does show moderate bead loss. The buckle measures 1.25" x 3.5". The belt measures 38.5" long overall.
