For auction in this lot is a custom saddle, crafted by Jack Connolly, one of three sons of renowned tack maker - John Connolly. The three Connolly sons (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) split with their father in 1907 to relocate to Butte, Montana, which was the start up location of the first Connolly Bros Harness Shop. In 1912, Jack and Pat moved on to Billings, where Jack was credited with expanding the business into saddle manufacture. In the year of the stock market crash, which led to the Great Depression (1929), Jack moved himself to Livingston, Montana, where Jack Connolly Saddlery was formed. This saddle in particular is no exception to Jacks renowned quality, showing expert floral tooling on the front of the seat rise, encircling the "Jack Connolly - Livingston, MONT." makers stamp. Additionally, the saddle is branded with Jacks stamp underneath each seat jockey, reading "PAT2008077". Further decorating the fine saddle are double stacked leather conchos, brass riggers and tacks, and subtle tooling around the back of the cantle, and bordering the fenders, and skirt. The saddle dates between 1929 and 1950, and shows good condition. The leather is supple and hydrated, and the sheeps wool undercarriage shows minor mating, with no apparent shedding. The saddle is offered from the renowned Bozeman, MT Western collection of Bud Chapman. The saddle features a 14" seat.
