Around 1932, Yeats - always an avid theatre-goer - "crossed a threshold" and
attempted work as a dramatist. He had met Samuel Beckett in 1930 and enthused
about the younger man’s writings, and the three plays which Yeats subsequently
wrote and published as Apparitions resemble Beckett in style. In addition to
designing the book jacket, Yeats also supplied three illustrations, all of which
would have been made circa 1932-1933.
