<B>JULIUS WOELTZ (1911-1956)</B></I><BR><I>Courtyard of the Catholic Church in Alpine, TX</B></I>, mid 1930s<BR>Watercolor on paper<BR>18 x 14 inches (45.7 x 35.6 cm)<BR>Signed lower right<BR><BR> Julius Woeltz is one of Texas' most accomplished historic artists and muralists, but is hardly recognized today. He executed over twenty murals in the WPA period, and would probably be better known today if his life had not been cut short at the age of forty-five.<BR><BR>In 1932, Woeltz began a four year long association with Sul Ross State University in Alpine as the head of the art department. This vibrant watercolor is from that period and was purchased directly from the artist by the current owner who was a student of both Julius Woeltz and Xavier Gonzalez at Sul Ross.<BR><BR>Provenance:<BR>Acquired from the artist by the present owner<B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent condition.
