<B>JULIUS STOCKFLETH (1857-1935)</B></I><BR><I>Halig Olig (Sea Harbor),</B></I> 1919<BR>Oil on linen<BR>11 1/4in. x 17in.<BR>Signed lower right<BR><BR>Julius Stockfleth immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1883, and settled in Galveston, Texas, two years later. For the two decades he was in Texas, Stockfleth produced a valuable record of early Galveston. His most important contribution were his portraits of ships passing through Texas and his record of the Galveston hurricane of 1900.<BR><BR>His paintings are naive in style, but possess bright and clear detail. In 1907, he returned to Germany where he lived out his life. This painting dated 1919, is of his hometown birthplace, Wyk Fohr, on the German coast of the North Sea, and was exhibited at the Texas Seaport Museum in February, 1005.<BR><BR>Exhibited:<BR>Texas Seaport Museum, 150 Years of Galveston Maritime Art, February 26, 2005<BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent condition.
