Froben 1544The title-page in red and black, with large Froben device, pages (12), 967, (1, Froben's large device in black), folio, near contemporary calf, gilt spine, with label, gilt : the binding worn, some 80% of the blank fore-edge of the title-page torn away and remargined affecting the first letter or so in a number of lines in the dedication on the verso of the leaf, clean tear in one leaf without loss, leaves KK1-MM6 (pages 933-967) have a portion (about 12.50 by 3.50 cms) at centre of the fore-edge cut away with the loss of five single-line side notes : yet, a large (the leaf size measuring 22 by 30.60 cms) and very good copy of a rare book. The first edition of the Jewish historian and military commander’s works in the original Greek. Adams J 352 : the issue with variant reading in the colophon noted only in the Corpus Christi copy. The title in Greek at head of title ; the dedication and preface in Latin, the text in Greek. Tthe colophon translates "Printed in Basel of Germany by Jerome Froben and Nikolaus Bischof, in the year 1544".
