JOHNSON MODEL 1941 DUTCH CONTRACT SEMI AUTO

RIFLE WITH WINFIELD UPDATE AND BAYONET. Cal. 30-06. S# 7806. The Winfield Arms. Co. offered refinished and upgraded Johnson rifles in the early '60's and this rifle appears to be one. Bbl. 21 5/8". Bbl. shank marked w/ "4348" "E". Bbl. appears to be replacement as it is not machined to receive bayonet lug retaining pins. Serial numbers will not match on Johnson rifles because they were not matched at the factory at the time of assembly. Receiver marked on left rear w/ "CRANSTON ARMS CO." in inverted triangle. Also marked w/ sm. 5 pointed star which was the Dutch acceptance mark. Receiver markings on top include "JOHNSON AUTOMATIC" "MODEL OF 1941" "CAL 30-06 SEMI-AUTO" "MADE IN PROVIDENCE, R.I. U.S." & patent info. Adj. aperture rear sight graduated to 1,000m. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Walnut buttstock & forend appear to be Winfield replacements. Forend without crosspin. Buttstock with deep pistol grip and straight toe fitted with commercial type sling loop holding British style tan web sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 7 1/2" blade spike bayonet w/ original leather scabbard. Lightweight bayonet made w/ all steel construction. Bayonet catch is present & provided w/ 2 retaining transverse pins but is not installed on bbl. & bbl. is not machined on the underside to receive these retaining pins. Bayonet retains most of its original finish. Scabbard in very good condition w/ tight stitching. CONDITION: original finish stock set has very light wear & scattered handling marks. Metal retains 90% of what appears to be a blued refinish as was advertised by Winfield as their "Deluxe Military Model" which offered "newly blued", "new barrel and walnut stocks". It retailed for $129.50. 2 Holes are drilled and tapped in left side of action with plug screws. Very good shiny bore. (22-308/RW/MGM). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
