(JOHNSON BILL SIGNED PEN)
(1908 - 1973) Thirty-sixth President of the United States and creator of the ""Great Society"" social welfare programs. America's growing involvement in Vietnam led to his declining a renomination as president. A great piece of presidential memorabilia, an ""Eversure"" pen used by President Johnson to sign into law, Bill ""S. 989"". A typed note under the pen reads: ""One of the pens used by the President on March 27, 1968, in signing S. 989, An Act to provide improved judicial machinery for the selection of Federal juries, and for other purposes"". The piece was presented to the Honorable Irving R. Kaufman at the request of President Johnson, as is attested as such by the accompanying T.L.S. by Barefoot Sanders on White House letterhead as Legislative Counsel to the president, 1p. folio, Washington, Apr. 1, 1968, in full: ""I am sorry you couldn't be present last Wednesday, March 25, when the President signed the Federal Jury Reform bill. We missed you. We are most grateful for your leadership in this matter. The President asked that I send you with his appreciation the enclosed pen which he used in signing the bill. Please accept my congratulations and warmest best wishes"". Framed, very good.
