Leading man of western and action film genre, “The Duke” became one of the most successful stars in Hollywood. Hollywood label with his name and costume number is sewn on the back of the pocket of the size 48 jacket. In excellent condition, the jacket has had a long and illustrious life post-Green Berets as well. According to the accompanying provenance provided by an associate of producer-director Steven Spielberg, penned on ‘Valkyrie’ letterhead, during filming of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Spielberg “had Green Berets roaming around securing the area. Some of these had tiger stripe camo... even though tiger stripe had not been used since the Viet Nam conflict. Someone brought Stephen the shirt, noticing that it had John Wayne’s name in it. Obviously left over from ‘The Green Berets.’...” Spielberg gave the shirt to his associate who “wore it on many hunting forays with Stephen over the years. One time when Arnold Schwartzenegger came on a dove hunt, he wore it...” Accompanied also by an unopened VHS cassette picturing Wayne in the jacket. A truly high-profile jacket worn by two of Hollywood’s most popular action heroes.
