Confederate Governor of Virginia, imprisoned for several months following Virginia’s surrender. Partly printed DS on vellum, 1p, small oblong folio, Washington, Mar 1, 1855. Paper seal present. A document allowing Letcher, on motion made “<i>by the Hon: Reverdy Johnson, duly admitted and qualified, as an Attorney and Counsellor of the Supreme Court of the United States</i>...” Boldly completed and signed by the Clerk of the Supreme Court. Engraved eagle vignette at top center. Light general age toning; light scattered foxing; normal folds; o/w VG. <b>Reverdy Johnson</b> (1796-1876) was counsel for the defense in the Dred Scott case. He was credited with helping keep Maryland in the Union; served as US attorney general and ambassador to England.</span></p>

Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.
