<B>John James Audubon </B></I>(American 1785-1851)<B><BR></B></I><I>Pileated Woodpeckers </B></I>(Plate CXI)<BR>Hand-colored lithograph (Pencil, ink and tempera)<BR>39 x 25.5 inches (99.06 x 25.50 cm)<BR><BR>This plate, a depiction of pileated woodpeckers on branches where vines of fox grapes or red grapes are entwined, is based on painting probably executed in 1829 at Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, and considered to be one of Audubon's finest works.
