General John J. Pershing’s Letter of Recommendation
JOHN J. PERSHING (1860-1948). U.S. Army General Known as “Black Jack” Pershing, who Led American Expditionary Forces in World War I and against Pancho Villa in Mexico.
March 24, 1924-Dated, (Archive of six items) with an Autograph Letter Signed, "John J. Pershing," 1 page, Octavo, measuring 5.25" x 7", at Paris, Choice Extremely Fine. Being a Letter of Recommendation for his chauffeur. Pershing pens, in full:

"To whom it may Concern: --- It gives me pleasure to recommend most highly, Norman S. La Reau who has been my chauffeur for the past six months. He is an excellent and careful driver, and mechanic as well. Always prompt and courteous, it is a comfort to travel with him His services during the war were of a high order as a mechanic in the Aviation Corps. He is making France his home, but as a fine upstanding American, he deserves the patronage of his fellow countrymen. --- (Signed) John J Pershing."

An archive that includes a wonderful endorsement from the American Commander-in-chief. At this time, Pershing was perhaps the most celebrated American figure in Europe. An impressive, high quality Letter with a rich dark signature and text.
