(1825-1864) Confederate brigadier general known for cavalry raids in Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio, killed in action near Greenville, Tenn. Excessively rare war-date manuscript D.S. "Jno. H. Morgan Col. Cavly.", 1p. 20" x 8", [n.p.], June 5, 1862, a report headed: "A Descriptive List of Landon Carter, a Private of Co. 'B' Morgan's Squadron Ky. Cavalry", mentioning when and where the private had enlisted (Cave, Ky.), the fact that he had never received any pay, and noting that the man is now due $144. At bottom, Morgan certifies the account to be correct. Lightly toned and narrow vertical stripe where pages were joined at the time, overall near fine.
