(1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. Early T.L.S. "John" on his House of Representyatives letterhead, 1p. large 8vo., Washington, May 13, 1950 to John Mahanna, Editor of the Berkshire Evening Eagle. In part: "...I note in your letter that WBEC planned to carry my talk...I had not thought that my address would be broadcast...[I] had planned to talk very informally. If my address is broadcast it would be necessary for me to make a prepared speech...If the manager of the radio station could cancel his arrangements to broadcast the speech I would appreciate it. However, if all the arrangements have definitely been made...then I shall let the broadcast stand...". Fine. Sold with an official engraved invitation to the innauguration of Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, 1p. 4to., issued by the Innaugural Committee. Even this early in his career, Kennedy was well aware of the power of radio and television, and its great sway over public opinion. Skills learned early in his political career would bear much fruit following his televised debate with Richard Nixon.
